On February 25, the Red House Student Project Associates hosted a faculty-student dinner featuring Professor Joseph Hartman. Dr. Hartman is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Government at Georgetown University, where he teaches courses on political theory, constitutional law, and American government.

The dinners are open to students from all majors and campuses and are designed to foster dialogue between students and faculty in a relaxed atmosphere outside of the classroom. Many of the students who attended this dinner were interested in learning more about careers in law, asking Professor Hartman about preparing for and attending law school, as well as specific career paths within the field of law. Students also asked about his happiness with his academic and career choices.

During the dinner, Professor Hartman highlighted his time at the Capitol Applied Learning Labs (CALL), where he has been teaching since Fall 2020. He also mentioned the CALL’s new Law, Justice & Society Minor. The minor, which will launch in Fall 2025, welcomes students from various fields and gives them a deep dive into legal theory and practice, combining law-related coursework with hands-on professional training.

In a recent article from The Hoya, Hartman said, “A lot of kids want to go to law school. People want to work on the Hill or get into public policy. And one of the nice things about the CALL is it’s located right there.” In the Fall 2025 semester, Professor Hartman will teach “First Amendment” at the CALL.You can visit our student page and subscribe to our newsletter for updates and upcoming student-led events at the Red House.
